Our Sisters Surviving Incarceration
Donation protected
Joined to the community event hosted by Third World Newsreel, CT Bail Fund, Life in My Days, and Survived & Punished--Surviving on the Inside: Our Sisters Speak--this community fundraiser will support the women of the panel who have survived, or are still fighting to survive, their incarceration and justice for Desiree Diaz, who died from medical neglect less than 24 hours after she was incarcerated.
The incarceration of women remains unseen. Incarcerated in York, the only state prison for women in Connecticut, our sisters have suffered unimaginable violence, pain, neglect, and loss. Still, they bravely speak truth to power. Despite overwhelming odds, they continue to fight for their freedom and the freedom of other womxn. They continue to build solidarity, love, and power together, protecting each other through the deepest harm. After incarceration, their struggles do not end. Our sisters inside and outside need our support.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will support our sisters in their continuing fight for freedom and health. It will go towards their commissary, their legal battles for freedom and bail, their efforts to rebuild their lives after surviving the system, and their struggle to defend themselves from the violence of other systems, like the violence of eviction and DCF, and build true safety for themselves and their families. It will contribute needed reparations.
All funds after the $10,000 goal will be put towards the $200,000 bond and legal fight of our sister who was brutalized by police earlier this year and criminalized for surviving. She has been incarcerated in York since then.
