Sigma Chi: Pi Chapter Fundraiser

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Parents, Brothers, and Alumni of the Pi Chapter:

In the Fall semester of 2014, the Pi Chapter of Sigma Chi was moved into a residence hall on campus that was previously occupied for many years by another Greek organization. In the three years that we have now called building “21D” home, we have encountered several problems that we have tried our best to remedy or seek help from Samford for places in the house they are responsible for.

In those three years, the following has already been addressed by the brothers of the chapter:

A study room has been built into the basement, complete with tables, chairs, whiteboards, printers, and a refrigerator.
Several new items were purchased for our chapter room in order to increase brother’s opportunities to develop relationships. Those items include a full-size kitchen refrigerator, Ping-Pong table, 65” TV with full warranty, and some new sofas. These items also help to accommodate more brotherhood events and rush parties.
Extensive biweekly cleaning of the house, including the hardwood floors, chapter room, parlor room, closets, storage room, and ritual room.

In those three years, the following items have come under extreme need, and as Samford Facilities currently has no plans to address the damage, we will use some of the donations to create a habitable environment for brothers to live, relax, and enjoy:

The kitchen was damaged due to a busted water pipe in the last spring semester and has incurred significant water damage, including mold, to the walls, floors, and cabinetry.
The wrong kind (and color) of paint was applied on the entryway and hallway and is now peeling as a result.
The front awning of the house is in need of a fresh coat of paint, a power washing, and small repairs.
The landscaping in front of our house is largely dead or damaged and needs updating.
The tread along the stairwells is coming off after 15 years of wear and needs to be replaced as there are exposed nails.

In an effort to make the Sigma Chi house into a home that we as brothers can be proud of, but also be safe in, we have come to the conclusion that we must take some work into our own hands. Our plan of future improvements is listed below:

Remodel the kitchen to remove any affected areas after the flood.
Replace old and moldy carpet in the parlor room and study room.
Repaint large areas of the house using the correct materials in order to ensure long lasting results.
Continue updating sofas and furnishings of the chapter room and parlor room.
Build a large wooden storage shelf in the basement to better organize house decorations and chapter materials.
Build a deck addition to our house as we are the only fraternity on campus without one.

As with every project list, there is always cost. As an Executive Council, we have determined that the only way to be fiscally responsible with our chapter’s finances and still be able to complete our long list of items is to fundraise. We are following suit of those who first built the original Sigma Chi house on Samford’s campus by reaching out to parents, friends, and alumni. In exchange for your donation, plaques will be commemorated based on tiers as follows:

WHITE: Individual donations of $1,000+
GOLD: Individual donations of $250-$999
BLUE: Individual donations of $50-$250

Donations can be sent through GoFundMe at www.gofundme.com/sigmachipi or checks can also be made out to Sigma Chi Fraternity with a memo line of Fundraising or Donation. Checks and cash can be mailed to our Financial Chair, John Hall, who will be taking in and organizing the donations towards the respective projects, at:
