Shellsburg Derecho Relief Fund

An August 10, 2020 a 'derecho' storm (a driving rain storm with winds up to 140 mph) caused significant damage to the community of Shellsburg, including homes, businesses, parks, city hall, elementary school and hundreds of trees. Shellsburg Area Community Group is raising money to benefit the Shellsburg Community.  At the January 19, 2021 city council meeting representatives of our community group discussed with the city council on how these funds would best help the city. Decision was unanimous that donations will be used towards replacing trees on city property, primarily in the parks, that were lost in the storm.

 FEMA funds and insurance money will help with the cost of removing and trimming damaged city property trees; they do not fund replacement of city property trees that were destroyed.
