Shave For a Future

Donation protected
Mum and I are a little crazy, but for good reason...

We're giving up our hair to hopefully change the futures of countless generations, and we need your help.

Why are we shaving our heads?

Here's the story behind this crazy endeavour:

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to travel to Kenya and volunteer with an organisation called Living Positive Kenya.

LPK work exclusively with HIV positive women who are battling the everyday stigma their diagnosis brings. Unfortunately, a vast majority of the African population are incredibly uneducated about HIV. Many villages believe it is a form of bewitchment (seeking to burn or ban the women from their village), while others fear close proximity under the impression that the ‘contagion’ is airborne.

I heard many stories of women being physically, emotionally, and mentally abused. Some were locked in kennels and literally fed like dogs, while others were abandoned entirely by families, partners, and friends. Understandably, this stigma makes coming out about HIV difficult. For these women, revealing their status often results in total isolation, unemployment, abuse, and loss of the will to live. These women are left to fend for themselves and their children, in already impoverished conditions.

Fortunately, it is not all doom and gloom. As horrific as the stories are, after encounters with LPK, an enormous sense of hope is instilled, and wonders happen.

Through the ‘Women Economic Empowerment Program’  at LPK, these once desperate, starving and uneducated women are transformed into entirely new beings! These women learn to sew, bake, make jewellery, speak fluent English, micro finance and essentially run their own business. There is renewed hope for not only the WEEP women, but also their children, and their children's children. It is the change of generations, the epitome of hope.

Mum and I want to see this phenomenal organisation flourish, and we would love your help.

So, to raise money for this beautiful cause, I will be...
SHAVING MY GINGERY HEAD!!

... and mum will be
SHEARING HER SHOCKING GREYS!!!

We are doing this for HIV awareness; for these inspiring, resilient women; for their unfair lives of hardship; and for their children born into extreme poverty.

We are shaving to support an organisation that is capable of making the most direct, unimaginably life-changing impact to countess individuals and families. We are shaving for Living Positive Kenya .

So please give us all the support you can, as I depart from my LONG gingery locks, and mum removes her GROOVEY greys.

Our goal is to reach $5000. That would buy more stoves, sewing machines,  rabbits, chickens, sponsorshipstextbooks, rent and land than you could possibly imagine! While hopefully raising awareness of the fantastic organisation that is LPK.

But we will be shaving as soon as we reach $3000!

So get donating!

If you donate directly to the website that's just as incredible: http://livingpositivekenya.org/. Let us know you’ve donated and we will add the amount to our total. Every single cent goes directly to these women - there is no middle man, no hidden profiteers, the only things getting richer are the lives and families of the women to whom you donate.

$1 goes such a long way, and we encourage you make as big a difference as you can. And to make us go bald as quick as you can!
