Shaun's Legacy - Defibrillators For Sandford
Donation protected
Shaun's Story recounts the tragic loss of a 13-year-old Wareham boy to cardiac arrest caused by a sudden asthma attack, which was his first sign of asthma, triggered by multiple viruses.
On a sunny Sunday morning in April 2024, his parents discovered him unresponsive. Despite his father, an emergency services worker, performing CPR and restarting Shaun's heart multiple times, a defibrillator was unavailable to restore a normal rhythm. The family emphasise the critical need for defibrillators within close proximity of residents to improve survival chances.
Shaun, diagnosed with a brain tumor at age four, had previously raised over £20,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity and advocated for wildlife awareness. A month before his death, he wrote a speech encouraging others to use their futures for good. His legacy embodies kindness, strength, and courage, and his family urges others to help continue his mission.
We Need Your Help!
As the owners of Rivo’s Hub Sandford (formerly the Sandford Hotel) we heard about Shaun’s Story and wanted to help. After speaking with Shaun’s Parents, Alison & Simon, we were put in touch with Swanage Community Defibrillator Partnership (SCDP).
With the support of the family we would love to raise enough funds to install a new public access defibrillator on the outside of our building.
This will be the second AED installed by SCDP in Sandford. Enhancing coverage at the southern end of the village and funds will pay for both the device, a storage cabinet and ongoing maintenance and running costs.
Every contribution brings us closer to improving safety for everyone in our local community and our customers. Please consider donating and making a difference today and continue the amazing fundraising legacy left by the most remarkable 13 year old boy.
Thank you
