SHARE A MEAL Help Lebanon: Food & Medicine

Lebanon has been suffering for more than 30 years and needs your support. Freshtable is travelling to Lebanon in June in order to raise awareness on the current situation and aid the locals but we cannot do this without your help!

The past two years were exceptionally tough and devastating, making an increasingly large portion of the population in Lebanon (Lebanese, Syrians, Palestinians, Iraqis...) vulnerable to hunger. In 2019 Lebanon had an economic and financial crash which resulted in a devaluation of the Lebanese Pound by 90%, causing the cost of food and gas to rise disproportionately, leaving the people in hunger and distress.

On August 4th, 2020, the Beirut Explosion blast struck the heart of Lebanon and its capital city of Beirut, leaving the Lebanese community with more deep scars. The blast killed more than 178 persons, left more than 6,500 injured and 300,000 homeless, and severely damaged public health infrastructure and medical facilities. With little to no access to medicine the Lebanese people still need our help. By 2021, unemployment reached a record high, and access to food and medical services became extremely difficult and, in many situations, not possible. The crisis was gotten even worse due to the Covid-19 pandemic

Who are we at Freshtable and why do we care?

Freshtable is a food social enterprise: a sustainable food meal delivery company located in the Netherlands serving world cuisine meals from all over. Freshtable is so much more than food however, our social and sustainable focus as a business has always encouraged us to provide access to healthy and tasty meals to whomever. With more than 6 successful Share a Meal campaigns, we have fed over 1000 people with free meals in the Netherlands and are now taking the step to aid Lebanon.

So why do we care for Lebanon? With our new Lebanese menu items we have travelled over to this magnificent place to cook with the local chefs and learn more about the real Lebanese cuisine. What we found was: remarkable resilient and such hospitable people, people with big dreams, big hearts and an open mind. What we also found unfortunately is that these people have not always been fortunate. With thousands of people suffering from hunger, unemployment, no or limited access to medicine, we believe it is now time to raise awareness for Lebanon. Despite its troubles, Lebanon with its 6.8 million habitants, is known for hosting over 1.5 million refugees. So when is it time for us to help Lebanon?

What we will do

• Provide the local community with medical supplies and nourishment.

We have teamed up with local partners such as the organization Plan LB in order to localize those who need our aid the most.

Goals:

• Hunger relief: Working with volunteers and donating partners to prepare meals and food boxes for Lebanon's underprivileged and needy communities.

• Medical supplies - Urgent help is needed for people with respiratory issues (asthma) and diabetes. Medical supplies are scarce in Lebanon, with the raised funds these supplies will be bought in Europe and transferred to Lebanon by our team personally.
