Shane's MDS fundraiser for Children's Health Foundation

On 6th April 2025 I will embark on the MARATHON DES SABLES (MDS) ultramarathon. This is an extraordinary race that has been taking place in the southern Moroccan Sahara since 1986, and is widely known as one of the toughest footraces in the world. It involves running/walking across the Sahara desert, covering a distance of 250km over 6 stages (the longest of which is approx. 85km), whilst carrying all your own supplies.

I will be funding the full cost of the trip myself but also taking the opportunity to help raise some much needed funds for a very worthy cause. The charity I have chosen is Children's Health Foundation (Ireland) and ALL DONATIONS received on this page will go DIRECTLY to the charity. This charity supports vital, life-saving work across all Children's Health Ireland hospitals and urgent care centres. We have used these services when our son, Conor, was diagnosed with a congenital kidney disease so we have witnessed first-hand the great work the dedicated doctors and nurses provide at Crumlin Children's Hospital. However, these services remain systemically underfunded so any donation you can make, big or small, will be greatly appreciated and put to good use.
