Shaena's Medical Mission to D.R.

Hello all,
 
My final part of training while in medical school includes a medical mission. I will be traveling to the developing villages of Tabagua, Munoz, and Bario Blanco in the Dominican Republic on November 8th for a 2 week medical mission with the humanitarian organization, Project Helping Hands.  During this mission, we will be providing health and medical care, as well as basic life needs to the underserved populations of D.R.

 D.R. is known as great vacation destination, but shockingly more than a third of the country’s total population lives in poverty, while almost twenty percent are living in extreme poverty. In rural areas destitution constitutes more than half of the population.  Because many of the people in these impoverished areas are without proper documentation, children as well as their parents are deemed stateless and are without any medical or social assistance.

In order to make this trip, I need to cover my own costs for the trip which comes to $2,300.00.  I know there are others, like yourself that care deeply for people and may want to be a part of this effort at helping some of those who need it so desperately in their lives.
