Days for Girls is an international charity that has been providing quality reusable cloth menstrual pads since 2008 and now operates in 141 countries worldwide.
In many areas of the world, women and girls experience "period poverty", with little or no resources to manage their menstruation; they often end up "losing" many days of their lives, sitting around waiting for their menstruation to pass, perhaps sitting on cardboard, or using toilet paper or rags in their underwear. Days for Girls offers an affordable, sustainable solution to this ongoing crisis.
We are very proud and excited to be the first official Days for Girls enterprise in South America!
We are a group of women based in the Vilcabamba, Loja area of Ecuador, sewing and selling cloth menstrual pads, providing information on women’s health and empowering women to choose healthier, more sustainable options for themselves and their communities.
The average “campesina” girl or woman here in the Vilcabamba area spends around $2-4 per month (that she can surely ill-afford to waste) on disposable, chemical-laden menstrual products that pollute her body and are then thrown away…
Our reusable cloth menstrual pads on the other hand are high quality, low cost, comfortable, convenient and last for years. Within literally three months, a set of our cloth pads will have paid for themselves, plus the owner will be taking much better care of her own body and the environment, for years to come.
We currently wish to raise funds to invest in a new industrial sewing machine and serger to move our work forwards more efficiently. We hope to raise £2500 for these purchases.
