BGA Service Learning Trip to Spain
Steuerlich absetzbar
As many of you know, Boston Public Schools canceled all International Trips to the Caribbean, Central and South America. Our annual Service Learning Trip to Dominican Republic was canceled. The kids have been working so hard to fundraise, that it was heartbreaking to tell them we were no longer going. We worked our contacts and managed to move their Service Learning Trip to Spain but we need your help! We are $7,740 away from our final goal of $25,740. Please consider making a donation, $1, $5, $10, anything helps! Please share our post!Thank you very much.
Urban youth from low income areas face disproportionate barriers to travel and obtain educational experiences. We are looking for supporters like you that can help a group of young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in experiential learning adventures and activities beyond their classrooms or neighborhoods.
Who are we?
We are an energetic group of 10 Boston high school students and 2 teachers that would like to complete a Service Learning Trip to Spain in April, 2016. We need help to make this a reality. We have already fundraised $18,000 dollars, but we need help in order to be able to reach our final goal of $25,740.
Our School:
Boston Green Academy's mission is to graduate all of our students prepared for success in college and the workforce. As a public school that is deeply vested in cultivating a highly skilled and actively engaged global citizenry, we prepare all of our students to be leaders in local and global environmental stewardship and activism, to live their lives responsibly and sustainably, and to take advantage of employment opportunities in the burgeoning green economy.
Why do we want to go?
We feel that community service is an important part of our lives. The students will complete academic work about reforestation and water conservation while performing local community service in the city of Boston. They also conduct fundraising activities for this Service Learning Trip. They will complete 35 hours of work once abroad.
How the money will be used?
The money will cover flights from Boston, MA to Madrid, Spain, transportation, accomodations and meals.
Service Learning Partners:
Boston Green Academy students will get the opportunity to join la Junta de Castilla y León (the Council of Castille and Leon), la Red de Espacios Naturales (the Network of Natural Spaces), and el Patrimonio Natural de Castilla y León (the Natural Heritage of Castille and Leon) recruit volunteers to implement projects in the region of Castille and Leon.
For the majority of each weekday, students will be actively involved in all types of service work and will spend most of the day outside, learning hands-on.
This program is a true chance for students to see the accomplishments of eco-conscious community driven organizations in Spain as well as participate in their ongoing initiatives and discussions about future project goals . A partnership with Patrimonio Natural de Castilla y Leon is an important link in the international chain because Boston Green Academy's mission is to prepare their students to be leaders in local and global environmental activism.
