Karen's Volunteer Trip to South Africa

As a child (and even into adulthood), my favorite movie was The Lion King. I was enamored with the bold story of unlikely friendship, regrowth, and power. Through my life, I have continued to have a deep connection to this powerful continent that is currently on a path of re-creation. I connect to the boldness, the truth, and the serenity that I see emanating from this continent of many people with their varied stories. I'm excited to share in those stories and to be able to be alongside the people of this great continent as they continue to become who they are working to be.

As a school teacher, I am blessed with the opportunity to affect the lives of children each day. I want to enrich my life through the connection with people around the world so that I can in turn enrich the children I teach. I want to be an example that no matter who you are or where you are in life, you can make a difference.

Ubuntu is a word standing for an idea in Southern Africa that we, as humans, are deeply interconnected. Without you, I cannot be me. It is through this idea that I ask for your help. Your support is what allows me to be who I need to be in life. It is what will allow me to make a difference in South Africa, because you will be there with me.
