Send NY MekoRock Musicians to Israel!

Tax deductible
Help us bring together a global rock band (MekoRock) of Jewish teenagers from disparate countries, cultures, and backgrounds—from Israel to Moldova; USA to Venezuela—brought together by their shared love of music and Jewish heritage. For many months, these teens have been collaborating together via technology (band practice has come a long way since the garage!) and at the Shames JCC on original pieces and now they are ready to perform a concert together in Israel!

The Shames JCC on the Hudson partnered in this project with other JCCs from around the world as part of the Amitim Program. We are working to coordinate the teens from all over Westchester to help them succeed. Now they need your help in getting to Israel! They are looking to raise $2500 ($500/each) to help with the travel and other costs associated with the trip.

Our band consists of teens, ages 14 and 15, from different Jewish backgrounds and different schools across Westchester County, playing a variety of instruments including drums, guitar, bass, piano, accordion, and flute.

Global MekoRock is based on the MekoRock model initiated six years ago in Emek Hefer, Israel. Each community has a Beit Midrash where teenagers participate in study and in artistic or musical creation via joint workshops and seminars facilitated by advanced technology that take place throughout the project. The project culminates in a joint concert staged by the teenagers from all of the communities. Each country will perform one original song that they’ve composed, and the five countries will join together to also perform one original song as a group.

Our global partners are: Emek Hefer Regional Community Center, Emek Hefer, Israel | Hebraica Club, Caracas, Venezuela | JCC KEDEM, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova | The Menorah Center JCC, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine.
