A few weeks ago, I received an email about an exciting opportunity sponsored by The United State of Women, an organization dedicated to being the megaphone for gender equality, bringing young women into the feminist movement and pushing a comprehensive women’s agenda.
...if you know me, you know I got excited about the email!
This fall, The United State of Women is launching the Galvanize Program: summits in six cities bringing people together to discuss the challenges that women face and empower participants to become the next generation of local and national leaders. These summits will provide women with the tools and training they need to organize, to advocate for policy solutions, to run for office or to become an entrepreneur.
I have been awarded a full scholarship to attend the Galvanize Program in Atlanta, GA, September 9 - 10, 2017. While this is very helpful, I am fundraising to defray costs associated with lodging, travel, and meals. Without this support, I will not be able to take full advantage of this amazing opportunity.
I've been involved in community service, advocacy and organizing work since my youth back in Buffalo NY. Today, in addition to my role as a professor, I advocate on behalf of Black women and girls through the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. I am also a Lead Organizer with BLUU -- Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism where I collaborate to provide support, information, and resources to other Black UUs.
