Send Ohana to Alvin Ailey Summer Dance Intensive

My name is Ohana and I'm a dancer at San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), a public magnet school in San Diego. A few weeks ago, I auditioned for the Alvin Ailey School Summer Intensive, which is a 5-week program at the Alvin Ailey school in Manhattan. The Ailey school is the top modern dance company in the United States and I got accepted! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for any dancer and the fact that I got accepted is mind-blowing! I only started dancing about 2 years ago at SCPA. I originally went to the school to play drums, but I had the opportunity to try out a dance class and I fell in love with modern dance. Most of the dancers training at my age level had been dancing for years, so when I went into my first class not knowing what a tendu was, I felt out of place. I quickly noticed that the other dancers were much more advanced than I was and I knew that I would have to work much harder than my classmates to simply catch up, much less excel. I give 100% every single day in my classes, I put myself out there, and because of that, I’ve received this incredible opportunity. However, this intensive is very expensive, so, I want to try to raise money to help my parents make this dream come true! If I am lucky enough to go, I will give it everything I’ve got.
