Self-Love for Black Girls

Peace & Love.

I am Dr. Teah Hairston, founder and owner of Be Love Holistic, LLC, a philanthropic-focused business that offers health and wellness workshops, activities, programs, and events to equip Black women with information, education, resources and experiences which encourage and empower us in the pursuit of optimal health and well-being. We are committed to helping Black women improve their lifestyles and well-being through healthy thoughts, behaviors, and practices using an African-centered, holistic approach.

Sistas often bring their daughters, nieces, etc. to our activities and workshops, which allows these young sistas to get a glimpse into the complex glory of Black womanhood, and also exposes them at an early age to tools, strategies, and resources for navigating Black womanhood in a society that devalues our lives and experiences. After many requests, Dr. GiGi Smith and I decided to curate a space designated for and dedicated to Black girls who will grow into Black women.

This workshop series will be tailored to serve Black girls ages 13-17 throughout the Greater Sacramento Area. Over the course of 2 months (four bi-weekly workshops), we will explore concepts, and engage in activities for building and nurturing self-love, self-confidence, and self-esteem in Black girls.

Self-Love for Black Girls is designed to empower Black girls to practice self-love, build self-esteem and self-confidence at an early age. Navigating a world that constantly devalues Black girls and women, our girls need to know that they are enough; that they are brilliant, creative beings that can accomplish anything they set their minds to. We want to instill in them the notion that Black girls are worthy of love, respect, support, and protection at all times, and provide them with opportunities to connect with other Black girls and women in the community who are committed to actively affirming these notions.

The content and activities of this program will encourage Black girls to reconsider and reevaluate societal expectations of who they should be, what they should look like, how they should speak and behave, etc., while teaching them skills to not only form their own opinions, but also to strengthen their mental and emotional fortitude to become the best, healthiest version of themselves under challenging circumstances and under the constant attack of external forces.

We intend to disrupt generational cycles of suffering due to unreasonable expectations of strength, perfectionism, and people-pleasing by providing useful tools for pursuing fulfilling, healthy lifestyles.

This program provides long-term residual value. We impart self-esteem and confidence in our girls and reinforce them with accountability, support, and community.

We are accepting 15 young sistas into the program beginning April 2023 and concluding June 2023.

Our goal is to raise $15,000 for materials, rental space, compensation for guest speakers, and other necessary expenses to offer our girls a meaningful, lasting experience. We invite anyone who is invested in the well-being of Black girls to sponsor or donate to this program. Community support will help us create the safest, most affirming space and experience possible.

Thank you for your support!
