STANDING ROCK | The Wopila Journey

WO · PI · LA (noun): a gathering of gratitude
This is not about political parties. It's not about an election.
Water is LIFE.
As such, we are leaving two weeks after the election to converge on Standing Rock in standing in solidarity with values of humanity.
The plan is simple.
MISSION
We are there to provide support. Not sightsee, not instigate. We are not tourists. We are not guests. We are volunteers and helpers. If community elders - or members, for that matter - ask us to do a task, whether it is to haul water or hop in the kitchen, please do so. If there are actions we are able to participate in, please feel free to join. However, please do not initiate protest demonstrations without approval from the native community.
Above all else, it's imperative that the caravan operates with the awareness that when we leave, the repercussions of any and all of our actions leaves ripples for them to feel - or have to deal with.

Over the past decade, our country has been responsible for countless wars started overseas over control of foreign resources. Particularly oil. An endless stream of displacements, regime changes, bombings, murders, and broken families are the legacy of our government's bloodied hands - and ours by association - as they've continued to create chaos and despair around the world and plunge our own country further into debt. Debt that further served to break our financial, our educational, our social systems, breaking our citizens' financial mobility in order to fuel the insatiable lust for power of the upper echelon.
And there was little we could do. The wars were fought overseas, brought onto foreign soil - away from the common citizens who would protest their existence, and out of hands of journalists who had been silenced even then, let alone the blatant degree to which they are puppeteered now.
Except now, we are awake, and we are our own media. We are aware of the real wars at hand - including the ones within our own country. Including the astounding plight of the Native American population, whom our government has continually marginalized in every way over course of generations upon generations. And whether through words, through presence, through donation, through demonstration, we are all standing against the corruption and malice.
THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR ALL THAT YOU ARE DEDICATING TO HUMANITY
Because that's what this is: A fight for humanity.
So whether you are liking, sharing, donating, joining us, or all of the above: Thank you.
