Hi everyone. My name is Tiayadi Day and I am Tiana Day's father.
Tiana is am 17 year activist who lead a peaceful protest where tens of thousands of people followed her across the Golden Gate Bridge. Her sole purpose was to lead the crowd with love and raise awareness to the black lives matter movement to demand justice for the death of George Floyd and many other victims of police brutality. In an interview with ABC 7 news, Tiana shared with reporter Kris Reyes she plans to continue her activism by starting a non profit organization called "Youth Advocates for Change". She hopes to raise money to award youth advocates who have performed academically as well as strive to make a change in their community, with an emphasis on black youth. This Go Fund me is made for that reason exactly.
Tiana plans to award black students who are active in their communities with scholarship money. Black students already have a disadvantage in education so we want to ensure those who want to get a great education are getting the financial support they need in order to be successful. She has a strong passion for education and believes that the change in this world starts with educating each other. With funds, black students will be able to go to school and get the education they deserve so they can be the successful and represent the black community in politics, businesses owners, etc.
We will announce via Instagram and our website on how to apply for the scholarship. Entries will be made in a creative way, most likely a video and essay combination. There will be multiple awards ranging from $500-$5000. This will be awarded to incoming freshman to 4 year universities, especially students who are attending HBCU. Scholarships will be awarded through a check made out to the university the student attends.
More info will be posted on the official Instagram page @youthadvocatesforchange and her personal account @tiana.nicole .
