GIFTS OF SELF-CARE FOR OUR ESSENTIAL GROCERY STORE WORKERS
Grocery store workers have important, “essential” jobs that put them on the frontlines during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Their work is high-risk because they are in direct contact with potentially infected members of the public; oftentimes with very little protective gear. Now grocery workers are becoming infected —and some are dying of COVID-19.
It’s a hard decision to go to work every day, and people are scared. Our own Scents, Suds & Succulents team member, Mandy, knows this first hand because her mother, Judy Kail, is a grocery store worker in Pennsylvania.
“All other stores may have closed, but grocery stores are open and people are coming in 2-3 times a day, every day, just because they can. All of us are getting burned out!,” said Mrs Kail. “When this started it wasn't bad, but as time goes on, it is weighing on us and any kind of appreciation from anyone really helps us through each day. We really do appreciate our customers and like seeing them, but by the time we go home we are physically and mentally exhausted.”
Stress Relief And Self-Care Gifts For Grocery Store Workers
Mandy’s mom, and others like her, work long hours for a little above minimum wage. They put on a brave, smiling face at their jobs, but many are filled with anxiety and stress. There is little time for self-care, and even if they had the time and money to go shopping, retail stores are closed.
Scents, Suds & Succulents is a cooperation between three small business owners in Gainesville, Florida - Deborah, Mandy, and Dee. To help these essential workers manage their stress, they took their surplus inventory from cancelled craft shows and farmer’s markets and put together gift bags. These beautiful handmade gifts are designed to ease stress and encourage relaxation.
Each gift bag includes:
Scents: A hand-poured aromatherapy soy candle by Ritual Tree
Suds: A luxurious bath bomb by GingerBomb Naturals
Succulents: A succulent arrangement by Willow Gardens
Let’s Keep Sharing The Love
On a sunny Tuesday morning on April 28, the ladies of Scents, Suds & Succulents delivered their first gift bags to the Hunter’s Crossing Publix employees in Gainesville. The managers and employees were so grateful to be recognized and receive the lovely gifts.
That first batch of gift bags came from Deb, Mandy, and Dee’s own supply of handmade products and plants. They want to continue sharing the love, but with more than 2,700 local employees of Publix alone, not to mention the other food stores in town, it’s not economically possible for them alone.
That’s Where They Need Your Help!
Your donation will help them replenish supplies so they can get back in their studios and create more beautiful handmade products to share with essential grocery store workers in Gainesville and beyond.
Essential Workers Need Us To Support Them
It’s important to recognize the sacrifice that this group of essential workers are willing to make for all of us. They are our family, friends, and neighbors, and we appreciate them.
A fragrant candle, a soak in the tub, and a living plant sitting on their desk can remind them that They Are Seen and Loved.
Thank you for your donation!
