Scarlett Teaching English in Korea

Bio:
As you may know, I am a third year English, Writing, Theatre, and Debate teacher at the inimitable Liberty Common High School of Fort Collins, CO . I have developed a variety of programs at LCHS such as drama club, after-school drama, Spring Colloquium,  Favorite Poem Project readings, and many more events outside of my teaching job description. In the summers I love to travel to learn new things. Last year I had grants to study Shakespeare at Columbia and the Theatre for New Audiences in New York City  as well as academic work at The Poetry Foundation in Chicago.  My passion and focus is on events that meld the written and spoken word, creatively and academically. I'm interested in bringing the LCHS community together through stories, plays, poetry, lectures, speeches, and other communicative projects so when the opportunity arose for me to do something similar at our sister school in Korea, I jumped at the chance.

The Opportunity:
I'm raising money to help defray the cost of my travel expenses to and from Seoul, Korea. Liberty's sister school, Gyeseong High School, asked for a teacher to come teach a conversational English class during the two week summer vacation and I accepted. The students will be mostly girls since up 'til this year the school was an all-female Catholic girls school. My students will be in 10th and 11th grade. The school has just recently become co-ed. Since I will be traveling with another ESL teacher from CSU we will each only be reimbursed $1,000.00 which will not cover the plane ticket and travel expenses. I will also be preparing lesson plans over the summer in order to be prepared to teach from July 25th-August 5th. I am excited to learn from a culture so different from my own and I hope that I can provide a glimpse of Liberty's approach to education and ideals to the students of Gyeseong High School. I consider myself an ambassador to the school and hope that you will help me in this mission.

I will be staying with a host family but will need funds for the plane ticket, gifts, and incidentals along the way. I will also not be able to work my second summer job while traveling abroad for two-three weeks.

Thanks!
Since I will be buying my ticket soon any contribution you can make would be greatly appreciated before the end of June. I am excited to return to LCHS in the fall and share my experiences gained with the Korean people, the sister school community, and teaching ESL with all of you through a special lecture or discussion. You can contribute either through this gofundme site or directly. Your contribution means so much to me since I truly believe that travel and adventure is one of the best ways to learn about one's self and the world. I know this experience will challenge and stretch me to become a better teacher and I appreciate anything you can do to help.
