Operation Raise the Roof
Donation protected
It's hard to know where to start. My family and I have been blessed in the last 30 years we have lived along the Gulf Coast. We've weathered storms and hurricanes without substantial damage to our homes, at least until recently. This week when hurricane Laura ripped through southern Louisiana, it did more than just knock on my nephew's front door...it literally ripped his roof off and transported his carport, water pump house, fence, and dog kennels to unknown parts.
I have started this fundraiser in hopes of easing some of the financial burden of rebuilding, as they wait for insurance and FEMA paperwork to be processed. Moving forward can be tough during this time. For those who have been through such a catastrophic event and having to deal with the red tape and paperwork, you understand what's ahead of them.
Josh is a Lake Charles Police Officer, and as a public servant, his dedication to the safety and security of his community comes first. With the long hours he will be working as an officer in the utter decimation of the Lake Charles area, it leaves precious little time to spend on his personal situation. Operation Raise the Roof is my way of helping to ease some of the financial obstacles and challenges they will face during this long process of putting a roof back over their heads, not to mention the mental and physical affects living in a situation such as this puts one through.
Any help you can provide is not only appreciated, but is also humbling to us as a family of public servants. Being a wife of a Houston Police Officer, I know how hard it is to evacuate with kids and pets while your husband stays behind to serve the community he has taken an oath to protect. The devastation to Josh and Marta's home will require a lengthy separation, while Marta is with family in the Houston area. Your kindness and contributions will help as she cares for their 2 year old son during this separation, and she and Josh work together as a team to put their lives back together from the roof down.
