This call for fund raising is to enable the history of the National Gas Turbine Establishment to be preserved.
The basis of the National Gas Turbine Establishment, NGTE, created during WW2, was to develop and test the jet engine, and this continued through to 2000 during which time it was a World leading establishment. It helped to develop many improvements, offered technical advice to British aviation industry, and was intrinsic to the Concorde project. The significance of these contributions is being lost, with little public awareness of the influence they had on British aviation. Through the Farnborough Air Sciences Trust museum, FAST, the aim is to generate a series of videos for world-wide distribution via YouTube, to show these achievements and highlight the wealth of archive data available at FAST and other sources.
A team consisting of ex-employees, a film maker and a video producer, Orchid Digital, has been formed. Help will be given from the Farnborough College of Technology to allow their media study students to gain experience, with the aim to educate and inspire as many people as possible especially historians and young people.
If these videos are not made, the collective memory will fade and disappear, as will the knowledge of NGTE’s important contribution to British Industry.
Identifying and collating the raw information will be carried out by volunteers. However, donations are needed to fund the professional resources required to produce the actual videos.
Any money donated for this project, and not used, will be passed to FAST, in appreciation of the support they have already given the project.
