In December, Sunderland Maritime Heritage (SMH) will have been in existence for 20 years, but currently only has enough funds to last until September. We urgently need donations to enable us to survive.
We are the only place now boat building in Sunderland and Sunderland’s only Maritime heritage organisation. Our objective is to promote Sunderland’s extensive maritime history through our museum and information centre and also to preserve vanishing skills in our workshops.
Donating to SMH allows you to make a real contribution to this objective and will help keep us open to carry on working with our community. Without urgent donations, we will not be able to offer local volunteers and people returning to the workplace, the opportunity to contribute their time in a constructive way. We will not be able to continue our work with schoolchildren and college students or those with Learning Difficulties, Dementia and those on the Autistic spectrum – whom we provide with activities and regular routine. Our declared aim is to continue our work so future generations can sustain our maritime heritage.
We have come so far in the last 20 years, steadily building the organisation to the standard we know and enjoy today - to lose this now would surely impact upon a lot of people.
All monies received will go towards helping us pay our building and project running costs, currently running at around £10,000.00 a year. Keeping the lights on and the doors open is the main priority for us at the moment. We are all volunteers at SMH - there are no paid employees or expenses.

Thank you for your donation.
