Save the Sea-Grass and Sea-Dragon in Sth Australia

Donation protected
We are from Glenelg Yacht Club trying to do our bit for the environment...this is our story, and mission....

Degradation of the marine environment is a major concern... after-all, this is where fish live and breed... they are the lifeblood of the oceans with some species very rare.

Damage caused to sea grass beds by boat anchors, especially where the sea grasses are very thick, is a little known problem which mostly goes un-noticed, but the damage caused by an anchor which has been fouled by heavy weed is devastating and highly visible, often leaving scars in the grass up to 200 metres long, which takes many years to recover.

Glenelg Yacht Club has seen the devastating effects of sea grass degradation in the coastal areas of South Australia, and have activated a plan to install a series of fixed swing moorings at strategic locations which are of high protection value, to allow all boats to the areas to have secure moorings without the need to use anchors.

The coral reefs of Australia have been offered this protection for many years, where anchoring has been banned, and the coral reefs, which were once ripped apart by boat anchors, has mostly recovered to its former splendor.

With 18 moorings planned, some within declared protected marine zones, we are raising  funds to buy the materials to allow us to install these moorings and stop the serious degradation of South Australia's acclaimed marine environment.

Help us to protect wonderful species such as the Leafy and Weedy Sea-dragons for the future generations of our wonderful state.

All donations, no matter how small, can make the world of difference
