Uhtred, my daughter’s loyal dog, was brutally attacked and left with severe injuries. Both of his hips were dislocated, and he now needs extensive surgery to survive. He has been a faithful guardian of their home, livestock, and especially the girls—always watching over them through storms, coyotes, and every possible threat. Even after the attack, he pulled himself to their rooms to keep protecting them.

I am writing today with a heavy heart on behalf of my daughter, her husband, and their girls. Their beloved dog, Uhtred, was attacked on August 20th and suffered serious injuries. He has deep lacerations on his face, neck, and ears—but the most devastating injuries are to both of his hips, which were dislocated in the attack. He now requires an extensive and costly surgery, followed by a long recovery and rehabilitation process.

Uhtred is not just a dog to our family. He came to my daughter as a gift when he was just three months old, after our family endured a devastating barn fire in 2021 that claimed her entire herd of goats and sheep. Uhtred was meant to be a livestock guardian dog, but he has become so much more. For four years he has faithfully watched over the goats and chickens, while also protecting my granddaughters. Whether it was a strong storm, coyotes outside, or even the daily arrival of the mailman, Uhtred has always been on guard for them.

Even after the attack, badly wounded and in pain, Uhtred’s instincts never wavered. He dragged himself to my granddaughter’s room to keep watch over her, and then to my daughter’s side for comfort. That is the kind of loyal, loving soul he is.

We are determined to give Uhtred every chance to recover and live the life he deserves, but the cost of surgery and care is overwhelming. Our family has been through so much in recent years, and it is not easy for us to ask—but we cannot do this without help.
