Save The Toronto Estonian House

A House, unlike any other

For 60 years the Estonian House on Broadview Ave in Toronto has filled the lives of many generations with traditions, life-long friendships, and a connection to their fatherland unlike any other. Today, the community is facing the heartbreaking reality of losing our home at the hands of the Estonian House’s disingenuous Board of Directors.

Our House hosted language classes, art shows, hobbyists, choral practices, chess competitions, expos, music, dance, drama performances as well as meditation and yoga instruction. We shared our House with Hindu, Ethiopian, Vietnamese, Swiss, Argentinian, and Irish cultural groups just to name a few.

Help us save a community gathering spot by contributing to our legal fund to stop the sale of the Estonian House and to initiate a new redevelopment plan friendly to the neighbourhood!

Ask yourself

What if your partner made a deal for someone to buy your house, but then failed to tell you that the deal fell through?
What if your partner went ahead and found another buyer but failed to tell you when the new deal was closing?
What if your partner was going ahead with the closing but didn't tell you the price?
What if your partner asked members of your family to move out early when they had nowhere else to go?
What if your neighbours, the friends you've had for decades, want you to stay?
What if you were told to move out before construction on the brand new house you were promised hasn’t even started?
What if you still didn't have the money to build that shiny new house?
Is all of this going to benefit your family, your friends or you?
Can you still trust the person who's putting you through all of this?

Reality

Many in the Estonian Canadian community are committed to holding these directors accountable for their actions. Unfortunately, the only venue for this dispute is in the courts. Our efforts are for the benefit of our Toronto-Estonian legacy, the City of Toronto’s development plans, the local Broadview neighbourhood and all the other cultural groups that use our cherished facility.

We cannot do this alone; we need your help.

Our vision is to be more inclusive, a better neighbour and to keep our doors open to more people. This community doesn’t need another tower, or another condo complex sandwiched into a narrow space.

Help us save the Toronto Estonian House and contribute to our fund!
