Support The Prisma: Independent journalism for immigrants
Beschermde donatie
For 15 years, The Prisma – The Multicultural Newspaper has been a pioneering, unique bilingual (English–Spanish), ethical, and independent newspaper entirely run by volunteers and dedicated to immigrants, minorities, and multicultural communities in the UK.
We are more than a newspaper. We are a bridge between immigrant communities and the UK’s multiculturalism, a space for dialogue, belonging, and understanding.
But now, everything we have built is at stake.
Despite a monthly readership of up to 350,000, our volunteer-run publication is at a critical turning point. With no corporate sponsors and no paid advertising to protect our independence, we urgently need your help to survive and move forward.
Why we need £50,000
This campaign will allow us to:
- Pay basic wages to our core team of editor, journalists, proofreaders, translators, writers, web developer, and social media volunteers
- Restore and re-upload our digital archive of 10,000+ articles, documenting the lived experiences of migrants and multicultural life in the UK.
- Fix critical website issues and modernize our platform for mobile access and accessibility.
- Expand outreach and engagement, particularly among younger migrants and underrepresented communities.
- Ensure weekly publication of free, bilingual content that informs, connects, and empowers.
Why this matters
In a time of rising hate and erasure, every story we publish challenges prejudice, resists the hostile environment, and fights for a future where migrants are heard, seen, and valued. Because when migrant voices are silenced, we all lose:
- Knowledge
- Resilience
- Cultural memory
- And opportunities to build a better, more compassionate society.
What we have done
With no salaries for 15 years, we have:
- Published thousands of interviews, articles, and essays about Latin American and other migrant experiences in the UK.
- Covered union struggles, workplace abuse, and immigrant rights.
- Work from journalism alongside researchers, NGOs, and students to amplify grassroots voices.
- Created powerful Special Issues: Muslims in the UK, Latin Americans in London, Generational migration, Palestine, and more.
- Inspired others to launch inclusive, multilingual platforms.
We’ve received recognition, including:
- “International Reporting of the Year” (IMA, 2022)
- Hosting the first migrant-led national debate on multiculturalism in the UK, at the House of Commons: “"Multiculturalism in the UK: Does it have a future?”
- Being an active member of CLAUK, IMPRESS, and IMA
- Being featured in The Guardian and other mainstream outlets
Who we are
- A member of the Independent Media Association (IMA)
- A media outlet regulated by IMPRESS for ethical journalism
- An active member of Coalition of Latin Americans in the UK(CLAUK)
- A media partner of the International Multicultural Network and the Latin America Conference “Adelante”, an event held annually in the UK.
- Committed to peace, inclusion, and anti-racism
