Help save The Boo.
She is 132 years old, been around since 1888, survived two world wars, the great recession, economic strife, political changes, witnessed the highs and lows of our community, she is rich in history and is now under threat of closure.
While we might not read about our Club’s history in textbooks yet, our historical building tells its story, and it would be a terrible loss if our community couldn’t hear it. By saving our historical building, you’ll help our community retain its uniqueness.
Old buildings are expensive to maintain and upgrade to modern conveniences and The Boo is in need of a lot of repairs to improve the facilities on site. We desperately need to put in Disabled Amenities and also build a large storage shed. This work should have been completed by June 2020 but, like many we have had no turnover due to Covid-19.
We applied for Government funding, however we were not successful. We have to fight for her and find a solution to ensure she remains viable into the future. The Boo’s kind of history cannot be thrown out the back door.
We want to save our historical building, it is not something we can attempt on our own. So we are asking you to join our mission. We are reaching out to the community to increase our chances of restoring and keeping The Boo running and save our community asset.
The Go Fund Me page purpose is to raise awareness and try to raise enough funds by July 2020 to save The Boo and ensure her future for centuries to come. She is facing enormous financial pressure and it would be a tremendous loss if we had to close her doors forever. Many families and businesses are struggling financially but, even the smallest contribution will make a big difference to our cause.
Our vision for The Boo’s future is to keep the combination of excellent food, 100% social bowls, wedding receptions, birthday parties, corporate events, charity events and all sorts of community activities.
The Boo has always been at the heart of our community, please contribute to something worthwhile and carry on this historical place to meet, the focal point for safe social distance gatherings. Lets save the oldest, most unique Bowls Club in Qld.
