Founded in 2010, the Japanese Art & Culture Center (JACC) is a non-profit organization* that has served Silicon Valley's diverse communities around San Jose, California with a mission to foster, develop and promote traditional Japanese arts and culture within the scope of the broader Asian culture.
JACC has provided venues to research, train, experience and exchange knowledge about Zen, including the arts, sports and cultural activities derived from it. This Zen-based approach forms the core of our program to enhance individual integrity, build compassionate character, and foster profound awareness and self-actualization.
In March 2020, we were forced to suspend our operations due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, with the end of the pandemic in sight, we are getting ready to resume in-person classes in the Japanese language as well as an array of traditional martial arts.
The financial situation is that our landlord is offering us a 50% discount on the monthly rent for the remainder of the year, as well as forgiving 50% of the unpaid rent amount. In order for us to meet these conditions, we must pay $45,000 ($42,000 back rent + $3,000 for May 2021 rent) by early-May, 2021.
Because we have had no revenue for over a year, we are asking the public to help us so that we can continue to offer our cultural classes and seminars which serve to develop each participant's body, mind and spirit. Our mission is to cultivate well-balanced, decent individuals capable of both critical reasoning and heartfelt compassion. This is the foundation for building a civil, prosperous and peaceful society.
Over the last decade JACC has been a place where a culturallly diverse group of students and teachers who are interested in learning about Japanese culture through participation in traditional arts can gather and share their knowledge, experience and outlook. It has served as a peaceful, accepting environment where people feel free to openly express their ideas and to form relationiships based on mutual trust and understanding.
The people who have become part of the JACC family often remark what an important part of their lives the Center is. Walking thorugh its door you experience an immediate sence of harmony and positive energy which enables you to restore your spirit and meet the demands of the day with joy and equanimity. That is why all of us feel such a strong need to somehow preserve this institution and carry on its work.
JACC is managed by volunteer staff, so that any and all of the funds we receive will go toward keeping the Center’s doors open. On behalf of all of our volunteers, teachers and students, we sincerely thank you for your kind and generous support.
