Save Sergeant York's Pontiac

Spende geschützt

This 1957 Pontiac survives as a piece of Fentress county history.

In 1957, the 82nd Airborne Division recognized a fellow soldier in need, and came to the rescue. Sergeant Alvin C. York, decorated WWI soldier and founder of York Institute, suffered from health issues and had no means of travel that would accommodate him.

The All Americans of the 82nd bought this new Pontiac, had it modified to fit Sgt York's wheelchair, and proudly presented it to him on the grounds of the York Agricultural Institute on “Sergeant York Day: August 20, 1957,” amid pomp and circumstance befitting an American hero.

After his passing in 1964, his Pontiac sat tucked away for nearly 50 years.

Our mission is to preserve and display this iconic piece of history in his, and every other Veteran's honor.

Once we've completed the cleanup and preservation, the car will be used to promote awareness of Sergeant York's legacy and the local community.

Our short term goal is to have it ready to make an appearance in the York Homecoming parade, September 22nd, 2017.  AND WE DID!!!

The Allardt Pumpkin Festival Car Show is also another event that we hope to have it on display.  AND WE DID!!!

2017-2018 are going to be big years for the local community and the York Foundation due to the 100th anniversary of World War I and we hope to have the car ready to display for all to see.

Any money over and above what we need for preservation will go towards a long term facility and anything needed to display the car.

Myself, the York family and many others appreciate your time and interest in our project.
