Stop Vandalism of African American Cemeteries!

Tax deductible
Stop the desecration of historic African American Cemeteries by vandals! Maggie L Walker , John Mitchell Jr. and Dr Sarah Garland  are just a few African American historic figures whose resting places need to be preserved and protected from vandals.   Their lives and legacies matter!  Please help us with much needed security upgrades including historically appropriate yet secure gates and cameras.   The Enrichmond Foundation , located in Richmond Virginia, is seeking help in our efforts to upgrade security so we can continue to revitalize, maintain, and protect our historic East End Cemetery as well as the Evergreen Cemetery which was established in 1891.  Evergreen Cemetery was attacked by vandals again on August 3 2020 !!!.  Securing this precious site is more critical than ever.  We need your help!

These national treasures were founded by leaders of Richmond’s African American Community during the time when people of color were not allowed to be buried in the same cemetery as white people. East End and Evergreen cemetery serve as the final resting place for numerous monumental African American heroes that faced trials and tribulations, segregation, discrimination, and racial violence while on their journey to help enrich the nation. Some of these prominent figures include Maggie L. Walker, John Mitchell Jr, Dr. Sarah Garland, Rosa D. Bowser, Hezekiah F. Jonathan, and Dr. Richard F. Tancil.  They have been forgotten in the frenzy over divisive Confederate monuments.

Unfortunately, years of neglect and desecration have caused these historic lands to become hidden behind overgrown brush, illegally dumped trash, and vandalized head stones.  Volunteers have been working hard to restore Evergreen.  Adequate security will ensure our progress is preserved as we continue clearing the land of debris and trash, removing and cleaning graffiti from headstones, and most importantly giving back to those who have given our country us so much.
