Save Brooklands Farmland, Stop 1400 Houses being built

Whitstable in Kent, The Garden of England, is potentially about to lose a huge green space between Chestfield and Thornden Woods.

Brooklands Farm is in an area of high landscape value and is prime agricultural land.

Canterbury City Council has proposed building a huge housing estate of 1400 houses on prime Farmland.

This new settlement along with Whitstable Heights, Bodkin Farm, Grasmere road and the Harrier lodge development will, potentially, increase the population of Whitstable by a third.

This knee jerk infill of houses and tarmac has already ruined many parts of Kent and threatens our precious green gaps and wildlife that inhabit these areas.

There appears to be no consideration for the, already failing infrastructure - RAW SEWAGE PUMPED INTO THE SEA REGULARLY, HOSPITALS AT CAPACITY, UNREPAIRED CRUMBLING ROADS, with the emphasis on meeting out of date statistics dictated by an out of date central government.

Since the planning laws were relaxed on developing green spaces there has been a DEVELOPERS GOLD RUSH, with shocking standards of quality in house building and developments that don’t match the original proposals as the end result.

We believe that it is time to call a halt to the concreting of our green spaces and take an up to date rain check on the demand for these developments. Once those green spaces are gone- they are gone for good.

We need funds to keep campaigning, getting leaflets sent out, creating large boards to put up outside peoples houses, possibly seeking legal advise. Any small contribution will help. Thank you.
