Djenane, Fofo, and Hassen are what many of us call Ambassadors of Haitian Culture; they are treasures to us in Minnesota. With the introduction of Afoutayi in 2009, a Haitian dance, music and arts company, this family has revitalized a part of Haitian culture that is often forgotten: the traditional folkloric rhythm and theatrical storytelling. They have built a community of dancers here in the State of Minnesota, introducing Haiti to all. Their list of accomplishments includes performances at the Walker West Music Academy, Compas, St. Olaf University, Hamline University, Alliance Francaise, Saint Paul Conservatory of Performing Arts, and MN Festival of Nations, to name a few. As respected leaders and culture carriers their stories have also been featured in books (Lavil: Life, Love, and Death in Port-au-Prince and Walking on Fire: Haitian Women’s Stories of Survival and Resistance ).
As friends of Djenane, Fofo and Hassen, we are asking for your help to keep the family in the US. Our deadline is fast approaching and every little bit counts. We thank you in advance for your kind donation.
100% of donations will be used to cover filing and legal fees.
