This is Adeline and she is the most charismatic, charming, smart, loving, and funny nine year old you could ever meet.
Unfortunately, at nine months old when everything is supposed to be new and exciting for a baby and new mother, Adeline mother’s Alyona got the worst news imaginable and thus they started the fight of their lives.
Adeline was diagnosed with an optic pathway glioma; a brain tumor that is in or around the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain. It can cause a child’s vision to worsen and blindness can occur.
She has been under constant observation since then, making weekly trips to the hospital with her mother to get treatment in order to manage the brain tumor. Unfortunately, as she grew older and the tumor progressed Adeline was left legally blind in both eyes.
It was in December 2018 that things really took a turn for the worse when Adeline woke up one night and couldn’t move or speak. She was rushed to the hospital with these acute symptoms, and an MRI confirmed significant tumor growth and Adeline was scheduled for urgent brain surgery. She underwent VP shunt placement and tumor biopsy right away.
The biopsy confirmed everything the family was dreading, that this was now an aggressive high-grade brain tumor.
After surgery, she developed paralysis on the right side of her body and spent several weeks in an inpatient rehabilitation center. She is still experiencing the paralysis today.
Adeline is now entering the next phase of treatment which will also be the most brutal. She is scheduled to start daily brain radiation for 6 weeks starting February 4th. After radiation, she will receive chemotherapy, which will require doctor visits and MRIs.
Sadly, Adeline’s mother Alyona is the sole caregiver and needed to leave her job in order to be with and take care of Adeline full time in her quickly deteriorating condition.
I am Alyona's friend and together with Igor, Alyona's cousin, we're raising funds to help Alyona with a growing amount of bills piling up.
All of the funds will be distributed to Alyona and go towards covering all medical expenses as well as all bills that are due until Alyona is able to return back to work. We want this family to know that for now taking care of and fighting for Adeline will not leave this family burdened with debt.
