Sarah's Recovery From Covid...

Donation protected
Sarah D’Andrea is a married mother of 5 children and works a full time job. She is the glue that holds their family together and would give the shirt off her back to help someone in need. Her husband Nick also works a full time job. Below are a series of events led up to where she is now.

On April 5th, Sarah started training at the post office

On April 8th, Sarah started showing symptoms

On April 10th, Sarah went to the ER because she couldn’t breathe, she was diagnosed with Covid and then sent home with a pulse ox

The rest of their family went and got tested at CVS

On April 11th, Nick, Kaleb (Son), and Zoey (Daughter) tested positive as well. Within the next week, the remaining children got COVID.

On April 12th, Sarah went back to the ER because she could not keep her oxygen above 90 and was then admitted into the hospital

On April 14th, Nick stayed with Sarah in the hospital 24 hours at this point, they also moved Sarah from a cannula to a CPAP

On April 21st, Sarah looked to be improving, her oxygenation started recovering quicker and they were able to lower her CPAP/Oxygen settings, she was able to go 8 hours from the CPAP back to the cannula

On April 22nd, her breathing started to improve more and she was able to stay on the cannula from breakfast all the way to dinner (12 hours), that night after dinner, they gave her a breathing treatment without asking her and she started to complain about her breathing

On April 23rd, Sarah found it a lot more difficult to breathe. She was only able to go to the cannula when she would eat but then had to go right back to the CPAP. Her forced oxygen went back up to 90%

On April 24th at 1am, they moved Sarah from a covid room to ICU because she couldn’t keep her oxygen saturation above 80. When they moved her to ICU her oxygenation dropped to a deadly 30% and it was at this point that Sarah wanted to discuss Intubation. Her oxygen recovered back to 80% but kept falling below 80%. At 4:30am, Sarah decided to go onto the ventilator. Nick went home for the first time in 10 days to now care for their 5 kids

All of the kids were still in quarantine because of COVID and Nick had to stay home from work without pay to be able to take care of holding his family together, who were suffering from COVID and the stress of their mother now being critically ill.

On, April 28th, Sarah was transferred from Laughlin Hospital in Greeneville, TN to Johnson City Medical due to her diagnosis. She required more professional and experienced assistance. She was there for 2 weeks before they moved the vent to a Trach in her throat because of how long she was going to be on the ventilator. She was on the highest amount of medication for sedation (Propofol) and the strongest pain (Fentanyl) and anxiety (Versed) medication via drips. When moved to the 3rd hospital (Bristol Medical) to help her wean off the vent, her trach was damaged during the transport and that set her progress back another 2 weeks.

Sarah was on the ventilator for 42 days before she successfully was able to be weaned off of it. She still currently requires a trach mask to supply her with oxygen and is still bed ridden since she has not been able to move. Since she was intubated, Nick has been unable to work but has travelled every single day to be at her bedside to help her with her progress.

She is going to be transferring to Durham Hensley for rehab. The doctor explained that for every day she has even in the bed, it will take at least 3 days of rehab. Which would be roughly 4 months, so there is still a long road to recovery to any kind of new normal.

Sarah had a full time job before getting COVID, and without that coming into the house Nick discovered how hard it was for a father of 5 to pay the bills on his limited pay checks. So this is to help Sarah, Nick, and their 5 children on their bills, food, and gas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
