Sarah’s New Wheels

Donation protected
Sarah needs new wheels! Can you help???

Sarah has cerebral palsy, suffers from gord, tonic clonic seizures and dyskinesia as well as being cortically blind. What this means is that Sarah requires 24 hour care, is wheelchair bound, and spends a lot of time at the hospital.

Her parents, Michael and Francesca Farrugia, are her full time carers, and also parents to Jesse and Jonah.  Along with Sarah’s medical issues, the family also tackle Frances’ MS (diagnosed 27 years ago), and their oldest son has recently been diagnosed with high functioning autism.

Earlier this year, the Farrugia family were blessed to have an amazing group of people help raise money for Sarah’s seizure dog, and for treatment for Sarah and her mother Frances.

Unfortunately, the family has now been thrown another curve ball in life. Their family car, which is modified to facilitate Sarah’s wheelchair, is now falling apart around them. The car barely starts (it has to be started with a two pronged tool that doesn’t always do the job), and has been deemed unroadworthy.

As you can imagine, the family car is their lifeline to the outside world. Not only does it get Sarah to her multiple and endless medical appointments, it also allows the family to get Sarah out of the house to enjoy time with family and friends.

The Family has been blessed to have a vehicle modification approved via the NDIS, however they are unable to assist with the cost of the vehicle. The rules are also strict with respect to the car they can buy. It needs to be under 5 years old, under 50000 k’s, and the list goes on. This means a cost of between 30 and 50k for a suitable vehicle.

As Michael and Frances are unable to work, this cost becomes astronomical for the family for such a basic need which allows some semblance of normalcy and mobility for the family.

Although the Farrugia’s would never ask for help like this themselves, they have allowed me to put the word out there on their behalf. They need a car in the next few weeks to then be sent for the mobility conversion. We are hoping this can happen in time to drive the family to Queensland to meet Sarah’s new seizure dog (as Sarah cannot fly) as well as allow the family a safe mode of everyday transport.

Any and all help will be so appreciated by this amazing and humble family, so on behalf of the Farrugia’s we thank you in advance for your generous donations.
