My name is Ethan Stanley and I’m a Senior at Bedford North Lawrence High School.
Santa's Stars was created last year to give back to kid's less fortunate in our community. Our goal was to raise $2,000 and we were able get over $3,000! This year we have raised our goal to $10,000!!! We want to be able to reach many more kids this year. Below is how our journey began!
Do you know what it’s like to not get what you want for Christmas? Do you know what it’s like to get nothing for Christmas? Unfortunately there are many young kids in our community who face the reality of no Christmas at all.
Last year in English Class, we were reading narratives about people who struggle to get by every single day. This made me think about how fortunate I am and lucky enough to have everything I need.
I went home and told my parents to cut my Christmas down to one gift and give the rest to those that really need it. After talking with my parents about it, I thought I could help a lot more kids if I had classmates that wanted to participate as well.
I brought the idea to my teacher, Mr. Hawkins, and school counselor, Mrs. Jahn, and they were excited to support. I came up with Santa’s Stars in the hopes that our student body could come together and create a tradition of giving during the holiday season each year.
So, what's next?
Me and my classmates are currently going around town talking to local businesses, explaining our mission, and requesting donations. I have created another GoFundMe page this year to hopefully get help from individuals in the community as well.
We need your donations - $5, $10, $50, or make a commitment to lessen your own Christmas so another kid can have one. Look at your Christmas list and see what you can live without and donate what you would have spent to those in our community who need it most. Your donation will help us make sure that parents who are working hard to support their families have something special to give their kids on Christmas morning.
Donations can be made thru Friday, November 30th. I have spoken with Bedford Federal to help ensure all funds are managed correctly.
100% of the money will be used to give local kids the Christmas they deserve. Remember the more money we collect, the more kids we can help.
