Sandra Dewey. This is her story.

Most of you by now know that I was recently diagnosed with cancer. I had surgery to remove a large brain tumor and will begin radiation and immunotherapy to treat the rest. Unfortunately it's a very aggressive form of melanoma and I have been told the odds are not in my favor.

It has been an emotional rollercoaster with many ups and downs, but I think what has surprised me the most is all the amazing people willing to help when we need it most. It's family and friends, but more than that. It's coworkers, soccer parents, old friends you haven't talked to in years, friends of friends, and even people you have never met before. It's the flowers that show you you're loved, the cards that wish you well or tell you to kick some ass! It's the meals people bring to your door and the amazing group of people picking our kids up from school and taking them to soccer practice. It's our family that replaced our water heater because it started leaking last week. It's all of this and more.

I cannot thank everyone enough. Not just for me but for my family. It all matters. It all means so much.

I'm just beginning my fight. It will be a rough one. I have good days and bad days. It will be hard on me, and it will be hard on my family. I worry about my four boys (including my husband) the most. I want to make sure with the holidays coming soon that my family is ok. I don't want my issue to become the centerpiece, just maybe part of our new normal.
