Nursing in Tanzania

Donation protected
Jambo!

I am Samantha, a Registered Nurse here in Saskatoon. If you are reading this, you are interested in hearing about the plans for my upcoming adventure!

I have been accepted to work in a Medical Center in Tanzania for four weeks with a volunteer organization called International Volunteer HQ (IVHQ). While I am there I will be working in urban areas and rural villages where healthcare is neither accessible nor affordable for many Tanzanians. Working alongside local medical professionals, I hope to support their program, as well as gain an understanding of the healthcare system in Africa both in the clinic and community setting. Based on my experience and training, I will be doing a variety of tasks within the medical setting. I am not sure what to expect, but with an open mind and open heart, I hope to make a difference in the lives of those I encounter.

Despite the need for immediate medical support in Western Africa today, my volunteer time in Eastern Africa continues to be very important for the local people. If you would like to take part in my journey your support, whether it be financial, prayer, or positive thoughts, would be forever appreciated! I intend to make a donation to the medical center to help them continue to provide medical services to the community. The donation will also be a thank-you for allowing me to learn under their guidance. I also hope to donate a gift to the local orphanage where I look forward to spending time with the children.

Do you have a wish list? This desire to travel to Africa is not new for me as it has been sitting dormant for many years. As my life continues to be blessed with so many wonderful friends, family and opportunities, I realize it is time to give back and this door was opened. It all actually started in high school when I was given the opportunity to partake in a mission trip to Mexico where we spent time volunteering in an orphanage. During this time I was able to spend a day working in a local clinic and it was there that I realized I wanted to be part of the medical world. The entire trip also made me recognize how volunteers truly make a difference. This had a significant impact in my career choice and my desire to volunteer now with those less fortunate.

I will be keeping an online journal and I would love for you to follow along at www.smnthlvrn.blogspot.ca . Internet access is not readily available near my place of residence in Tanzania, however I will do my best to update as often as I can. I will be leaving Canada on September 12th and returning October 14th, 2014.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. You have already contributed to my trip, and because of you, my experience has been forever changed.

Asante Sana,
Samantha
