Salviamo la costa di Castiglione dalle barriere

Siamo il comitato di cittadini “Save The Coast CdP”, un gruppo che vuole proteggere la costa di Castiglione della Pescaia dalla realizzazione di massicciate, pennelli e isole di sassi che stravolgeranno per sempre il litorale.

Siamo nati tra la fine del 2019 e gli inizi del 2020, legati dalla passione verso il mare e dall’amore verso questa terra, selvaggia e incontaminata.

Inizialmente siamo rimasti pietrificati di fronte alla notizia del progetto proposto: tonnellate di sassi per delle barriere frangiflutti che devasteranno per sempre questa meravigliosa costa ampiamente incontaminata. Queste costruzioni distruggeranno anche gli unici spot di surf nella nostra zona. Uno di questi, Rocchette, è un luogo leggendario per il surf italiano che con le giuste condizioni regala giornate davvero epiche.

Ci siamo arrabbiati, pensavamo di non avere possibilità… fino a quando, durante una delle tante chiacchierate, abbiamo deciso di rimboccarci le maniche e di provare a difendere la nostra terra. Nell’arco di pochi mesi abbiamo allacciato rapporti con istituzioni, associazioni ambientaliste, professori universitari, gente comune e professionisti del settore, trovando numerose conferme e opinioni sul fatto che questo progetto, così com’è, va fermato.

Siamo ora in una fase critica: nonostante le critiche piovute dalla Soprintendenza dei beni culturali, da vari enti e da professori universitari, il comune di Castiglione della Pescaia e la regione Toscana perseverano verso la realizzazione di questo progetto scellerato.
Se andasse in porto la costa non sarà mai più la stessa.
I nostri figli non potranno mai godere del mare dei giorni nostri e dovranno invece pagare gli oneri della manutenzione e dei correttivi a questi progetti che, come ormai da decenni a questa parte, hanno dimostrato di non fornire soluzioni definitive all’erosione ma piuttosto di spostare innescare nuovi problemi erosivi.

Il tutto in un circolo vizioso che devasta l’ambiente, peggiora la qualità delle acque e porta a spendere milioni e milioni di euro pubblici (solo questo primo progetto ci costerà ben 12 milioni di euro).

Perché stiamo chiedendo il vostro aiuto?

Non vogliamo solo opporci ma vogliamo fornire approfondimenti, studi su soluzioni alternative e relazione tecniche per permettere una difesa della costa a basso impatto e innovativa.
Inoltre potremo portare avanti impugnazioni dei provvedimenti dell’iter di approvazione del progetto.
Per noi questi fondi rappresentano un passo fondamentale per realizzare il nostro sogno di una costa naturale e protetta.
La nostra battaglia e il nostro lavoro potrà essere di aiuto per tutte le altre realtà in cui si manifesteranno questi problemi.

We are a citizen committee who want to protect the coast of Castiglione della Pescaia from the construction of embankments, groynes and breakwaters that will change the coast forever.

We were born between the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. Our name is “Save The Coast CdP” because we are people passionate for the sea and deeply loving our land, so wild and unspoiled. 

In 2019 we discovered a terrible project threatening our marvelous and largely unspoiled coast: tons of stones for breakwater barriers. These constructions will also destroy the only surf spots in our zone. One of these, Rocchette, is a legendary place, not so consistent but with the right conditions it delivers really epic days.

At the beginning we got astonished and angry, we thought we had no chance… then, during one of the many chats we had, we decided to roll up our sleeves and try to defend our land. 

Within a few months our cause have passionated other common people like us and we found support from environmental associations, university professors, professionals in the sector. All of them gave us numerous confirmations on the fact that this project must be stopped.

Now we are in a critical phase: despite the opposition of the local Cultural Heritage Public Institution, research bodies and university professors, the municipality of Castiglione della Pescaia and the Tuscany Region is continuing in the realization of this project. 

If the project will be finalized, the coast will never be the same. 

Our children will never enjoy today's landscape of this corner of paradise. Instead, they will have to pay the costs of maintenance and corrections of these breakwaters which, as for decades now, have shown not to provide definitive solutions to erosion but rather to trigger new erosive problems.

It will be a loop that devastates the environment, worsens the quality of water and millions and millions of public euros will be spent all over the years (this first project alone will cost us a good 12 million euros). 

Why are we asking for your help?

We don't only want to oppose the project, we also want to provide insights, studies on alternative solutions and technical reports to allow a low-impact and innovative defense of the coast. 

We could also go to court for trying to stop the project approval process. 

For us, these funds represent a fundamental step to realize our dream of a natural and protected coast. 

The results of our battle could help all the other realities affected by these problems.
