Sahadia Mia Chatelain was born March 6, 1978. From day one she had a smile that would light up any room she was in. I first met Sadhadia when she was in second grade and I was in the fourth. My principal Mr. Bernstein came to my classroom and asked the class if there was anyone who would be able to assist this little girl to the bus stop. I raise my hand, and Mr. Bernstein chose me.
That one little action change both our lives. Sahadia started coming to my home after school. She enjoyed being at my house so much that she would ask her uncle to bring her back to my house to play. Later she discovered that her uncle was dating my mother. She then whispered to my sister and I that she believes that her uncle was going to ask my mom to be his wife. My sister and I was never told by our mother that she was dating, so it came to us as a surprise.
Now fast forward 30 years her uncle now my stepfather and Sahadia now my cousin. Even though we were not blood related we grew up like sisters. I have loved and cared for her I feel all of my life. When I was getting married she flew to New York to be at my side. When I was looking for a change from the fast pace of New York I came to visit her and saw how well she was living on such a small income, and I thought to myself well if she can do it I can do it too. And I decided at that moment that I would move to Florida.
In the years since I’ve been here in Florida we have raise our family together. We have shared all of our good times and our bad times together. I have watched her struggles, I have watched her persevere, and I have watched her love unconditionally all the people around her. Anyone who has ever been touched by her know how special she is.
On May 21, 2019 she was called home by our lord and savior. Because her death was so sudden and unexpected we as a family are coming together to try to give her a special home going. I am starting this go fund me page and asking for any assistance from all who have loved her and know her and miss her to please assist in the funeral costs as well as assisting in helping her son Cameron in this time of sorrow with unexpected expenses.
Thank you all and God bless.
