Safety of the Harrisburg Jewish Community

Donation protected
On Monday, August 10th we returned to our synagogue, Kesher Israel, to find two swastikas on the doorway

Unfortunately, this incident comes at a time when anti-semitism is becoming ever more rampant in the United States. This incident is a part of a larger trend to deface synagogues across the country.

However even more unnerving, is the current trend of killing Jews for just being Jewish. In 2019 alone there were three such incidents. A man ruthlessly walked into a Hanukkah party with a machete killing one person and injuring 4 others. 5 individuals were killed while shopping in a kosher supermarket. Another Jewish man was stabbed outside of his synagogue in Ramapo, NY.

Let us not forget the horrific mass shooting which took place at Tree of Life in Pittsburgh in 2018.

We must take action to ensure this ugly trend does not go any further in the Harrisburg community.

The money raised in this campaign will go towards continuing the effort of bolstering the safety and security in the Jewish community. We will work with security experts to identify how we can improve the safety of the Jewish community and the Harrisburg community more generally.

Judaism teaches us that we are all responsible for one another. We hope this campaign will serve to bring the community together after experiencing an act of hate.
