Meet "*Lucy." Pictured on the right along with one of our Life Coaches.
Lucy has been with Olive for just over a year. Her story is a great story of victory as she was the victim of sex trafficking for over 25 years. Lucy struggles with PTSD from the abuse she suffered over those years. Since being with Olive, she has gained new confidence and value for herself. Lucy loves to cook, do hair and nails, and also has a great obsession with Minnie Mouse. She wants to attend Fresno City College and take either culinary arts or cosmetology classes.
One thing we have noticed that has held her back is a lack of sufficient housing.
Housing for victims of sex trafficking can be tricky because of the trauma these women have endured. Not every program is suited to fit victims of such abuse. Currently, Madera County does not have transitional housing to fit the needs of these victims. Survivors of sex trafficking require trauma care that most places are not equipped with.
Often times, these women are being sought after by their traffickers and need a safe place to go. We provide all our survivors with the safety required for them to heal as well as trauma counseling, education services, along with any other services that are needed.
Recently, a generous donor gave Olive a building to use as a "safe house" for victims of sex trafficking. Our renovation costs are $70,000.00. Through fundraisers and grants we have been able to to raise $55,000.00.
This safe house will provide a "home" environment for our survivors. Our goal is to provide transitional living where these women can have privacy and security while they receive the help they desperately need.
We are asking for help for the last $15,000.00. Whatever you can donate will certainly go a long way to help these vulnerable victims.
