Safe Haven for Domestic Violence Survivors

Hi, my name is Ann and I am raising funds to repair a home that will be used to house mothers and children who are leaving unhealthy and dangerous relationships.

Too often, mothers find themselves in a situation, having given up their careers and sources of financial stability, to selflessly devote themselves to building a home and raising children, only to become financially dependent upon a partner who uses this dynamic to control, demean and devalue.

The mother loses her identity. She knows life isn’t supposed to feel this painful, she seeks solace in the love she shares with her children, and she tries desperately to communicate her needs to a partner who is so lost in his own trauma and false beliefs that he is completely incapable of processing her words, and -as a defense mechanism- often further attacks and wounds the woman.

The path to freedom is not easy. Shelters are full, waiting lists for housing are in the hundreds, and many women find there are no resources available to them.

The mother needs a safe place to call home along with support in locating the lost pieces of her soul, in piecing herself back together to rise, stronger and more capable than before. She may need guidance in creating or finding a career that meets her skill set and passions, and ultimately allows her to evolve into the highest version of herself. She needs trauma healing and spiritual guidance to release the emotions she was unable to safely feel throughout a threatening situation, which are now stored in her body. She needs to be held and supported, while knowing she has a safe space to be witnessed for exactly where she is on her journey - broken and grief-stricken, hopeful and joyous, and everything in between.

In addition to providing housing, I am in the process of creating an online community that will support these mothers in stepping forward and ending the cycles of abuse and generational trauma that so many of us carry. I am reaching out to local agencies to determine what type of funding is available for housing. I am working with contractors who provide low-cost repairs. I have grant writers ready to write proposals. I am channeling my sacred grief into creating something that will help mothers and children to live a better life.

There is a lot of red tape associated with funding this project, so to jump start - I am asking for donations from those who are able to support this vision.
