Hello friends of Seagrape!
After many years of wonderful visits to Seagrape, I find it's time to give back to the group that has made my visits there such great experiences. The pandemic response on the island of Roatan (a complete closure of the island with sea patrols blockading the shores as well as closure of all businesses and lockdown of residents) has kept the island covid 19 free but has decimated the local economy. The timing couldn't have been worse for our friends on Roatan as everything shut down right at the beginning of high season when they would normally be working hard and saving money to cover the slower times of the year.
This is where we have an opportunity to help out. By sending a donation down to the island we can help ensure of that the maids, grounds keepers, boat captains, and all the staff can take care of the necessities and be ready to welcome us back to our favorite place on Roatan! Money from this campaign will be sent down to the resort and used to pay necessary living costs such as food, water, electricity, or propane. I've been chatting with Mariela and plans aren't finalized yet but she'll be helping to administer how to best spend any donations and doing the accounting necessary to track it all.
We all have incredible memories of our stays at Seagrape. Many of us feel like it's our home away from home and that we are part of the extended family. Let the memories of the good times and the anticipation for more in the future steer your heart. Contribute if you can or just send a note to the resort (Mariela says she's checking email at least once a day) telling them you're thinking of them.
Thanks in advance, best wishes and good health to you and your families.

I forgot to mention that because of the rules for gofundme fundraisers I had to set this up in Canadian dollars (CAD) even though the Lempira and US dollar (USD) are the two currencies in circulation on Roatan. So if you're in the US (or another country) you might want to do a quick conversion calculation to see how much CAD is equivalent to the USD amount. For example I just donated $422 CAD because I wanted $300 USD to end up in West End at the resort. Well actually there will be a processing fee deducted but hopefully you get the idea.
