Help feed the Starving in S.Sudan

South Sudan is suffering from famine. People are dying every day from hunger and starvation especially the most vulnerable—women and children, the elderly and the sick.
Many of us have heard that there is a famine in South Sudan and that this country has been at war for over five years now. But we may not put a face to the suffering and grief of our brothers and sisters.

I know this story personally through a friend of mine and one of my inspirations in life, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, the bishop of the South Sudanese Diocese of Yambio.  Bishop Kussala has sent me two emails this past month (May) both of which speak of severe human suffering in South Sudan, the absence of the basic necessities of life for so many people and lack of access to basic healthcare and the challenges he and many other bishops, priests and nuns are facing in serving the poor. In many cases, church workers and ministers are also facing starvation. Many people are dying silently.

Bishop Hiiboro and the people of South Sudan needs your help. Bishop Kussala is a bishop after the heart of Pope Francis. He loves his people. His cathedral is an open space because he uses the little resources which he can raise locally and internationally for agriculture and food security. His only treasure is the poor people in his diocese. He has been a champion for peace in South Sudan and a champion for the poor.

Now he and his people are fighting a war against time in the face of the famine and humanitarian crisis brought upon his people by war and breakdown of law and order.

He needs your help to feed the children in his schools, to feed the starving seminarians, displaced clergy and nuns, and to care for women, children, the elderly and the sick who are fleeing to his churches for safety in dire need for food, water and shelter.

The government of Canada has promised to double every dollar which our charity, Canadian Samaritans for Africa, raises to help Bishop Kussala and the mission of the church in South Sudan. This window closes by 30 June 2017. I need your help to reach this target which will help save many lives.

South Sudanese Christians need your help. Every dollar you give will save a life and support the agricultural projects of Bishop Kussala and the Catholic Church in South Sudan in providing food for the most vulnerable; water for the thirsty, and healthcare for the sick and dying.
