RWWA is for women who may face social isolation

Tax deductible
We have reached a stage where we need to seek support from the public.  We need to ask for help in raising funds for our centre.  The core funding that we receive from the local authority and other places will no longer cover all our running cost by the end of 2019.  We are afraid that after 35 years of serving the families of Rochdale Borough we may lose some of our vital services and will no longer be able to help women (many of which are vulnerable and/or isolated) in Rochdale Borough, these includes, Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood and Littleborough.

Please help us if you can with any amount to continue providing a vital and much needed service to women.

About our project:

Rochdale Women's Welfare Association was established in 1984, and has been providing support services for BAMER women for over 35 years. The project is based in the Wardleworth area of Rochdale, and serves the wider Rochdale local authority area.

The project service users are typically hard-to-reach women who (for cultural or language barrier reasons) do not normally engage with mainstream services, but may experience a number of issues including Domestic Abuse (DA) Honour Based Violence (HBV), Social Isolation etc.

The project has bilingual staff members and volunteers (around 18 volunteers at present).  As a result of our many years of successful engagement with the BAMER community, we receive referrals from various local agencies such as the police, childcare services and health agencies etc.

Our staff are qualified in different areas which include; Youth and Community, all staff have Level 2 in Counselling and Listening Skills, Domestic Violence Level 2, Customer Service Level 2, Our Manager has Level 3 in Management and much more.

The staff have over 30 years’ experience in working with the communities.

At Rochdale Women's Welfare Association we currently offer the following programme:
• Drop-in support.
• A project for older women focused on their wellbeing and aiming to reduce their isolation.
• A youth group to empower younger girls to have a voice in issues affecting them.
• Some awareness-raising campaigning work highlighting the increasing prevalence of child sexual exploitation in Rochdale.
• Education and Training courses such as ESOL, Maths, IT
• Health and well-being programs such as healthy eating, weight management, mental health, domestic violence support and advice.

Domestic Violence/Abuse Support
• Freedom programme delivered in bi-lingual language Urdu and Sylheti
• Chai and Chat programme is a group work delivered in bi-lingual language Urdu and Sylheti. The women talk about their own ambition and hopes they would like to achieve.  Independent women naturally tend to be a little more confident on handling issues affecting their lives.

We also offer one to one and group work to support the women facing these issues, we work with the women to become safe and empower them to live independent lives free from fear and abuse. This understanding and acceptance allows the empowerment of individuals to develop in order that each of the clients we serve can develop to their full potential.
