Thank you for stopping by our fundraising page for Anne!! The money raised through this website will go directly to help Anne with any of the expenses she will incur while she is being treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. For those of you who don't know Anne's story, please read below. Thank you for your prayers and generosity!!!
Anne's battle with Leukemia began seven years ago when what she thought was a bad case of strep throat turned out to be much worse. She was diagnosed on December 5th, 2007 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). At that time, she underwent treatment that consisted of several types of chemotherapy. After months of treatment, she achieved complete remission and remained cancer free for two and a half years. At that time, her leukemia returned and Anne underwent further chemotherapy treatments with the hope of having a bone marrow transplant. In December of 2010 her doctors at Hershey Medical Center told her that she was not in remission and sent her to MD Anderson in Houston Texas for further treatment options. This is when our first miracle happened. When she arrived at MD Anderson, they ran a series of tests and determined that she was, in fact, in complete remission!! They sent her home to Hershey where she received a bone marrow transplant from a donor in Germany on February 18th, 2011.
Anne celebrated being three years cancer free this February. Shortly after, she visited the doctor after a sore throat and ear infection wouldn't go away. They again sent her for blood work and a series of tests and on Wednesday, March 12th the doctor called with the devastating news that her cancer had once again returned. Anne suffers from a side effect of the bone marrow transplant called Graft vs Host disease. Because of this complication and due to the fact that this is the third time she is battling cancer, her options for treatment are very limited.
They are sending her back to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas with the hope that she might qualify for a clinical trial or treatment plan available at their facility. This is where we are hoping for our second miracle!
