Run for Eve- VHI Mini Marathon Sarcoma Cancer IRE

Dear friends and supporters,

This year we are completing the VHI Women's Mini Marathon on the 4th of June 2023 in memory of our dear sister and friend Eve McMahon. We will be raising much needed funds for Sarcoma Cancer Ireland.

In September 2021, Eve graduated from UCD with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology. She then began a Master’s degree in Epidemiology in Imperial College London, with the hope of making a difference to people’s health on a global scale. Eve was passionate about cooking, music, craft, crochet and travel, and always shared her talents with her friends and family. She brought happiness and positivity into the lives of everyone who knew her, and always brightened up everyone’s day with her infectious energy.

In October 2021, Eve was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. This is a rare and aggressive subtype of Sarcoma Cancer. Eve withdrew from her Master’s programme and returned home to Ireland. She underwent intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy for 7 months under the care of the wonderful staff in St. Vincent's Hospital. Eve persevered throughout all her treatments and despite multiple setbacks, carried herself with immense courage. Sadly, Eve passed away on the 19th of June 2022.

As Eve’s one-year anniversary approaches, we have decided to run the VHI Women’s Mini Marathon in her memory. We hope this GoFundMe page will not only raise funds in her memory, but will also support Sarcoma Cancer Ireland. This is the only non-profit organisation in the Republic of Ireland that exclusively supports sarcoma patients. This organisation deserves well needed funds to increase sarcoma awareness, to advocate on behalf of sarcoma patients, and to support sarcoma patients as they navigate through their treatment journey with this rare cancer.

Despite our immense sadness over the past year, Eve’s strength and determination continues to inspire us every day, and we know that she would be proud of our efforts to support this cause. Please join us in honouring the memory of Eve by donating to this cause.
