Rubio Family Harvey Relief Fund

Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc on thousands of Texas families. My sister and her family, the Rubio's, are no exception. 

Rachel and David bought their dream house less than six months ago. They and their three girls (5, 3, and 10 months) moved into the Thornwood neighborhood in West Houston–close to where Rachel grew up, close to their church, and, unfortunaley, close to the Buffalo Bayou and the Barker and Addicks Reservoirs. 

When the hurricane hit Houston, the Rubio's were staying close to the hospital where David was assisting with patients. They were still near the Medical Center when they first received word that the Reservoir waters were to be released into the Thornwood neighborhood. Because the Reservoir release occurred within hours of the announcement, there was no opportunity for the Rubio's to move or pack anything before water came rushing into their new home.

The rain has stopped–but strong currents still flow out out of the Reservoir and into the Thornwood neighborhood, water continues to stand in the Rubio's new house, and the Rubio's are still under a mandatory evacuation order. We do not know when they will be allowed back into their home and the water will continue to stand for weeks; they will not be able to save anything in the master bedroom, any of their first floor furniture, or anything in their girls' playroom. Their second floor (with all the girls' furniture, the girls' clothing, and family keepsakes) are likely to be ruined as well, given how long the water will be standing.

In the months to come, the Rubio's will need help rebuilding their lives. Please help this beautiful, generous, hardworking, faithful family get back on their feet! Your donation will help David and Rachel salvage their house and get their girls back to a new normal!
