Hurricane Florence Recovery

As the effects of Hurricane Florence continue to impact coastal North and South Carolina, it’s clear that many of our Johnson Controls colleagues will need help to recover from this devastating storm. Due to mandatory evacuations that are still underway, and a worsening flooding situation, many of our employees are displaced and have been unable to work for anywhere from three to ten days. In the wake of the storm, they must also deal with flood damage, unexpected out of pocket expenses and the fear of what is to come.  

Although this situation remains very fluid, we want to be proactive in providing as much support to our Atlantic Coast teammates as possible. This is a group of very hard working individuals that want nothing more than to get back to work and get their lives back to normal. Unfortunately, that is not possible right now, and may not be possible for some time.

The outpouring of support thus far has been incredible, and we are setting up this GoFundMe campaign in order to assist our employees with the most need in their recovery efforts.

Update – September 24

There are projections that Wilmington, North Carolina, where the hurricane came onshore, could get another 3 feet of water in the next few days. Georgetown and Horry counties in South Carolina are faced with similar challenges. 

 Georgetown County Governor Henry McMaster said, "The water is coming. We know it's coming. And when it gets here, people need to be prepared for it to be here for several days. Georgetown has never seen flooding like what is on its way."

In neighboring Horry County (Myrtle Beach), Emergency Management Director Randy Webster said in a Facebook video, "We're facing an unprecedented flood situation... We know a lot of folks are going to be impacted that have never been impacted before."


Current plan is to distribute collected proceeds to a 501(c)(3) organization to locally manage a disaster relief program for qualified, impacted employees.  We will provide contributors with updates as this moves forward or if the plan changes.  However, Johnson Controls makes no representation that contributions may be treated as tax-deductible.  Employees making contributions will instead need to consult with their individual tax advisor to make this determination.
